As this is our first blog post since we have gone live, it seems only fit to start with why we started and where the idea of Giraffe Boutique came from. It’s a good question and to be honest, I just love telling the story. Giraffe Boutique was born thanks to my beautiful nephew.
He came up with the name and the logo and the idea simply grew from that point, and here we are today! Both he and my niece are the true inspiration behind why we started this venture and if they weren’t so fab, I’d probably not be sat here writing this. I am forever getting them in the office on school holidays and weekends to test out products (playing with toys), to raid the biscuit tin, to keep me company and I suppose most importantly, to inspire me. I tell you, the working life of a child is a hard one… which toy to play with first. The custard cream or the chocolate digestive - the list is endless.
I had an idea and I definitely had the inspiration for this amazing idea, I just needed a name. Having set up Asteria Global in 2013, I had always dreamt of developing the business and building an online department store like Giraffe Boutique. Having my niece and nephew in the office one afternoon, we began to think of different names we could call this ‘dream’ of mine. Whilst I was getting on with some paper work my niece and nephew were drawing some pictures of their favourite animals and thinking of different names for my idea. My nephew aged 6, who I now call my company artist sat and drew this picture of a giraffe. With it, he came up with the idea that the drawing of the giraffe was going to be the letter ‘i’ within the word. This idea grew on me. Popping in and out of my head. It just made me smile. How can a 6 year old come up with such a great idea? From this point I knew this idea was something amazing, just like my nephew and niece!
I took his idea to a graphic designer and they then developed it into what it is today - something I am so proud of, something that truly makes me smile and something my wonderful Nephew has created. From that moment Giraffe Boutique was born and I cannot tell you how amazing it feels to see my nephew’s work out there. It’s to him I have great thanks for as my business dream has come true.
